Your love poem was not the only exposure i had had to poetry
Then why whenever i read it, it felt as if it was the only poem i had ever laid eyes on
It would dictate my thoughts and numb my defense mechanisms

And i would slowly surrender to the bubbly and sweet smell of innocent first love
When we were braced with the confidence of the fool and the faith of the wise
No doubts could fit in between our holding hands
No question braved its way out of our mouth because we knew
Nothing could break us apart, or so we thought

And it would struck me out of the blue
Like now, in this soaked moment

Where my eyes remain closed yet my mind keeps stumbling on your poem
the one i hold dear, the one that never stopped losing its shine
Because in my pitch dark mind this was the North star which shined for me
As the universe, a crevice, stood in the way
Because of my mistake

In my haste to play, I tripped over a scarlet string
That sensitive vein that connected us deeply
I cut it open in my effort to attain what i thought was true love
only to lose it

Now i know and i wish i could tell you
You showed me that love was a constant effort
Loving you was the best decision i ever made
and leaving you was by far the worst

I miss the way you'd tease me lightly
or the way you'd compliment me with every chance you'd get
But most of all i miss the way you appreciated me

But it's too late, there's no room for the truth to leak out
for aches to be recalled, for marks to be remembered and wounds to be opened
The seasons have changed and you have found your summer
Your star crossed lover
